WSP USA is Hiring a Construction Inspector Near LOUISIANA BLVD, NM

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Highway Construction Inspector for our Albuquerque, NMoffice. Be involved in projects with our Project Management/Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges

Your Impact

  • Perform construction inspection and observation of highway and/or bridge construction work for compliance with City of Albuquerque, NMDOT, Municipality, County, and Tribal plans, specifications and contract documents; Work includes but is not limited to inspection of earthwork, hot mix asphalt, concrete structures, concrete placements, base course, subgrade, guardrail, culverts and drainage structures, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting, signals, striping, utilities, and traffic control
  • Interpret plans, specifications and contract documents to verify contract compliance
  • Prepare daily work reports; prepare and maintain documentation of contractor work performed; observe and perform materials testing and inspect traffic control based on construction plans and specifications. Use SiteManager Construction Management System, spead sheets, or other electronic or manual means to document construction project activity
  • Perform sampling and testing of concrete 
  • Perform moisture/density testing of soils, base course and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) using a portable moisture/density gauge
  • Perform sampling of soils, base course, aggregates and HMA
  • Document work item quantities accepted and approved for payment; report pay quantities using SiteManager or other electronic means prepare and review reports and documentation
  • Verify contractor compliance with project safety procedures; Inspect and document contractor traffic control set-ups
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior construction inspection experience.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Familiar with construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
  • Familiar with relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Excellent research and evaluation skills with analytical mindset.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in or the ability to become certified in concrete, hot-mix, soils, traffic control, densometer gauge, materials sampling and testing by the ACNM/NMDOT Technician and Certification Program (TTCP)
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certification
  • Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Certification
